Hosts — SSH favorites
A host is a named SSH favorite: “Mac A” instead of
customer@192.168.191.50. Hosts live in the sidebar’s
Hosts tab (⌘1).
Adding a host
- Click + at the bottom of the sidebar and choose New Host…, or choose Shell > New Host….
- Paste or type a connection into Quick add — for example
ssh customer@192.168.191.50oradmin@server.example.com -p 2222. OliTerm fills in User, Host, and Port for you. - Give it a Name — that’s what the sidebar and tab titles show. Group and Notes are optional; both are searchable.
- Click Add Host.
User is optional (leave it empty to use your local username), and Port defaults to 22.
Grouping hosts
With more than a handful of hosts, sort them into groups — “Office”, “Customers”, “Home lab”. As soon as one group exists, the Hosts tab shows one collapsible section per group; hosts that aren’t in any group gather under Ungrouped.
Creating, renaming and deleting groups
- New group: click + at the bottom of the sidebar and choose New Group…, choose Shell > New Group…, or right-click a section header and choose New Group…. From a host’s context menu, Group > New Group… creates the group and puts that host in it. A new group starts empty and stays until you delete it.
- Rename: right-click the group’s header and choose Rename Group…. Its hosts follow.
- Delete: right-click the header and choose Delete Group. The hosts are kept — they move to Ungrouped.
Group names are unique, ignoring case.
Putting hosts into groups
- Drag and drop: pick a host up anywhere on its row and drop it on a group’s header, between or onto the hosts in that group, or on Ungrouped. An empty group shows Drag hosts here.
- Right-click a host and choose Group to pick a group, or Remove from Group to ungroup it.
- In the host editor, the Group field takes an existing group from its menu — or a new name, which creates the group when you save.
Collapsing sections
Click a section header to collapse it, and click again to expand it (the chevron that appears at the header’s right edge on hover does the same). Collapsed sections still accept dropped hosts. OliTerm remembers the collapsed sections in every window and across launches. The sidebar filter matches group names too — type a group’s name to list all of its hosts.
Connecting
- Double-click a host, or right-click it and choose Connect in New Tab.
- Or filter with ⇧⌘F and press ↩ to connect to the first match.
The session opens as a new tab. The titlebar spells out where the tab
points — the host’s name with user@host, plus the resolved DNS
name and IP address on the same line.
Connections run the system /usr/bin/ssh — your
~/.ssh/config, keys, ssh-agent, and ProxyJump directives all apply,
and password prompts appear in the terminal as usual. See
Terminal sessions for details, and
Filling credentials for password help.
Editing and deleting
Right-click a host for Edit… and Delete.
